Guitar

Guitar lessons are a fun and challenging way to learn a life-long skill.  Music is something you can take with you anywhere you go!  You can be any age and take guitar lessons.  Young students should have the strength the hold the guitar and depress the strings; count and recite their ABC’s without assistance.  Most students start by taking half hour lessons and increase the lesson length when they are ready. 

Guitar lessons can be conducted in a variety of styles, most commonly classical or contemporary. The guitar is played by depressing and striking the strings giving us the tones we hear.  

There are different classifications of guitar:

  • Electric: Electric guitars require an amplifier.
  • Acoustic: Acoustic guitars include classical guitars (with nylon strings) and steel string acoustic guitars.

With Along Came Music guitar lessons are completed in-home.  Your teacher travels to you and conducts the lesson where you practice.  This allows the teacher to not only correct each student on a technical level, but also to resolve any poor habits that may arise due to the practice environment.  Students who want to master the guitar will find private in home lessons are a great way to increase skills.   Lesson curriculum is based on a student’s goals and interests, each teacher is encouraged to integrate interests with technique and the foundations of music through additional materials.

What you need:

  • Guitar
  • Tuner: Part of playing guitar is knowing how to keep your instrument in tune
  • Picks: Some styles of music require use of a pick to strum the strings

Materials will be suggested by your instructor based on student goals, choice of guitar (electric or acoustic) and musical styles.
