Ryan

Ryan is a guitar, bass guitar, banjo, piano, and woodwind (emphasis on saxophone) instructor.

Ryan studied classical guitar at Baker University from 2002 to 2006 and earned a BA in Music Performance. He learned pieces and studies by Andres Segovia, Fernando Sor, and Bach. Ryan played Saxophone and Bass in the Symphonic and Jazz Bands. He’s proficient in theory as well. Currently, Ryan studies Bluegrass (Flat-picking) on both guitar and Dobro. Many of his influences include Tony Rice, Norman Blake, David Grier, David Grisman, Doc Watson, Jerry Douglas, etc. He’s been playing guitar for ten years. Stylistically his sound is a mix of Bluegrass, Blues, Country, Folk, and Acoustic. While attending school Ryan received many awards and honors for his participation in music including several Music Scholarships (woodwinds and guitar). He was active in the Jazz Ensemble and a member of Baker’s Symphonic Winds. Ryan now plays Dobro and Guitar in The New North String Band. Ryan owns transcriptions and tablature from the likes of players such as Tony Rice, Steve Koffman, and Jerry Douglas. His knowledge of Bluegrass, along with music and book collection, runs very deep!

Ryan has three years of experience working as a private music instructor, using his upbeat personality and fun approach to keep students engaged in lessons and learning.
