Drew

Drew picked up the guitar at age 13 and hasn’t looked back since.  After spending a few years playing along to his favorite records and teaching himself music theory, Drew joined his high school’s jazz band as a guitarist and eventually picked up the string bass to join the orchestra.  Throughout high school, he taught the occasional student and eventually landed a job at his local music shop, handling all guitar sales and repair work.  During this time, Drew was a member of several bands that met with a fair amount of local success, winning several competitions and building considerable catalog of recordings.

In the Fall of 2006, Drew relocated to Saint Paul, MN to begin his studies at McNally Smith College of Music.  During his time there, he studied with Mike Menard, Mike Krajewski, and Bobby Stanton.  His four years at McNally were marked by intense study and a vast broadening of his musical talents and interests.  Drew graduated Cum Laude in May 2010 with a B.M. in Guitar Performance.

Drew can currently be seen around the Twin Cities and the surrounding areas performing with a variety of groups.  In addition to his solo performances and his own band, the Drew Hurst Trio, he can be seen with Jennifer Ordalen, The Mike Fugazzi Band, and a slew of other bands he occasionally sits in with.  When not on stage or in the studio, Drew spends his time teaching and has contributed his musical talents to a number of productions at the Lyric Arts Main Street Stage in Anoka, MN.

Drew specializes in all styles…from classical and country, to jazz and heavy metal, and everything in between.  Beyond guitar, Drew is also well versed in music theory and history, both of which he has teaching experience in.  He has taught students of all ages and skill levels.
