Aubrey W. holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, with an emphasis in violin performance, from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Originally from Huron, South Dakota, she began studying piano at the age of six, soon followed by lessons in violin and French horn.

Principal teachers include – on violin – Hans Peterson of Huron, SD; Kristine Determan of Watertown, SD; Jacob Murphy of Mishawaka, IN; and Dr. Eunho Kim of Sioux City, IA. She was a piano student of Beverly Bigge of Huron, SD and Dr. Juyeon Kang of Orange City, IA, and on French horn she studied with Dr. John Colson and Dr. Alan Taylor of Brookings, SD. She has also studied vocal performance in the studio Emily Lodine of Magnolia, MN.

In high school, Aubrey distinguished herself by being a four-year member of both All-State Orchestra and All-State band, on violin and horn. In 2004, she was accepted into South Dakota’s 147th Army Band, in which she has performed concerts throughout the United States as a horn player, vocalist, violinist, and jazz pianist. As a college student, she involved herself intensely in the music department of Northwestern College, studying performance in violin, voice, horn, and piano, in addition to her studies in music education.

Violin became her main performance focus, with many solo opportunities including Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G Minor with the Northwestern College Symphonette in 2005 and Lou Harrison’s Concerto for Violin and Percussion Orchestra with the Northwestern College Percussion Ensemble in 2006. She was a featured soloist in the Northwestern College A Cappella Choir’s 2006 tour of California, performing movements of J.S. Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E Major.

Aubrey is also active in vocal performance; in 2007, she was a principal in Northwestern’s production of Johann Strauss’s opera Die Fledermaus. She has been a member of numerous performing ensembles, including the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and several of Northwestern College’s musical ensembles including orchestra, string quartet, symphonic band, chorus and chamber choir. She has been a recipient of many awards and scholarships, including the Leo Kucinsky Academy of Music Concerto Competition Scholarship, the Marion Hinds Hospers Voice Competition Scholarship and the McGilvra Keyboard Competition Scholarship.

Currently, in addition to her position as an instructor at Along Came Music, she is a violinist in the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra of Minneapolis, with plans to attend graduate school in violin performance.
